AOAC launches working groups to develop guidelines for validation of food fraud detection methods

How do we know if a fraud detection method is valid? How do we know if it has been calibrated to detect all frauds and whether it will give false positives or false negatives?

The AOAC has set up working groups composed of experts in analytical chemistry, diagnostic tools and food fraud from all countries and all areas of sectors (academy, industries, governments ...) to develop guidelines for the validation of detection of fraud in food products. In other words, these working groups will establish the criteria to be met by a detection methods so that they can be recognized internationally. As for now, very few food fraud detection methods are internationally validated for food fraud detection. The research group of the PARERA platform is participating in these discussions.
