Virginie Barrere holds a PhD in Parasitology from McGill University and an engineering degree in Food Safety and Microbiology (ESIAB).
She has worked on allergen detection methods, allergen management in the food industry and on the development of reference materials. Her work also includes common guidelines for food fraud management in the food industry and the harmonization of food fraud detection methods. She has developed training in food fraud management for industry and regulators and also teaches this course to students in Food Science at Laval University.
She has since joined Danone in 2020 to become Manager of Microbiology and Food Safety.
