Lupin: an emerging allergen in the US

Last January, a team from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Rochester, NY, published on two cases of allergic reactions in Annals of Allergy Asthma and Immunology, due to a legume present in the list of allergens in Europe: the lupine.

Very good scientific article in open access with the following link.

The article relates the two cases of allergic reactions in children involving lupine and makes a very precise presentation of this legume and all the aspects that surround its use in agribusiness and labeling rules (or lack thereof) that relate to it.

In Canada, lupine is also considered an emerging allergen. Food Allergy Canada has written an article last August 2017 that presents very well the situation of lupine in Canada and is still relevant.
